ABOUT US:
Mark Reilly
Mark played indoor volleyball with Mount Royal College, where he won a National Championship. After college, Mark played professionally in Japan and Bulgaria. On the beach, Mark has competed on both the FIVB World Tour and on the AVP in the United States.
Mark created PVB Canada an organization that runs camps, clinics and now operates a club system for youth volleyball players. Interclub had a great third season thanks to Mark and his excellent coaching staff. Every year PVB introduces the game to hundreds of new athletes and gives many others the opportunity to improve their games.
Mike Slean
Mike Slean represented Canada on the FIVB World Tour for 7 years. During that time he took a 5th at the Pan American Games and a 17th at the World Championships.
As an indoor volleyball player, Mike won 5 Ontario Championships with the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. In his 5 seasons, Mike was named OUA Rookie of the Year, 5 Time First Team Ontario All-Star, 2 time OUA Playoff MVP and 4 times was recognized as an All-Canadian.
Currently Mike plays indoor volleyball with the Toronto Blues Brothers and the Master’s National Team. On the beach, Mike took a third in Elite Men’s Provincials in 2007 and 2008. Mike is a qualified fitness appraiser and personal trainer, his company Team 12 Training trains many volleyball athletes.
Chris Wilding
Chris comes to Solstice Sport with an impressive coaching background. Most recently Chris was on the coaching staff of the RMC Men's Volleyball Team in 2009-2010. Chris has many years of coaching experience with the Pegasus Volleyball Club, Scarborough Titans Club and with many high school programs. His experience is not limited to indoor volleyball as he has run numerous beach clinics and has worked with PVB to provide quality beach programs.
Jordan Matthews
Jordan Matthews is an experienced indoor and beach athlete. Jordan played three years at York University, with this past season being his final season at York. Previously he was a Provinical Indoor Team athlete and captain for Ontario at the Canada Summer Games. On the beach, Jordan has accumulated 4 Provinical Beach Silver Medals at 16U, 20U and 24U twice. He has also finished in the top 4 at Beach Nationals 3 times.
Ali Loynachan
Ali was a member of one of the most dominant girls club teams in history, Durham Attack Big Black. Big Black won Nationals again last year at the 18U level and Ali was named to the National All-Star team. Ali was a member of the Ontario Provinical Team for 3 years. This season Ali is attending UMBC - University of Maryland Baltimore County. For her efforts this year she was selected to the American East Divison One All-Rookie Team. Ali was also selected to two tournament All-Star teams in her first season at UMBC.
Kevin Matthews
Kevin completed a successful volleyball reign at Seneca College in 2006. During his time at Seneca, Kevin was honoured with numerous individual and team awards. He is a two time first team OCAA All-Star and has competed for teams that won silver and bronze at the OCAA Championships.
Kevin coached two seasons with the Seneca Sting Men's Volleyball program. They finished the season 10-3 and were the Central-East Division Champions in 2007. All of the Solstice volleyball programs will benefit from Kevin's expertise. Kevin currently plays with the Blues Brothers Volleyball Club.
Tori Cowley
Tori will be returning this coming season for her 5th season of Wilfrid Laurier Varsity Volleyball. Tori has been having impressive results on the beach since 2007. In 2008, she took Provincial and National U21 Gold and represented Canada at the U21 World Championships in England (9th). Based on this success, Tori was named to the Ontario Provinical Beach Team in 2009. Tori and partner Alex Mingay are off to Turkey in June to represent Canada at the World University Games. Heather Bast
Heather Bast was a member of the provincial and regional indoor volleyball teams during her high school years. She also enjoyed a 4-year volleyball career at the University of Guelph, earning a bronze medal at the OUA Championships. Heather was honoured with the West Division Award of Merit in 2001 that goes to an individual who has shown tremendous leadership, dedication, commitment and contribution to the general university and to OUA Volleyball. Heather has also been awarded 4 time All-Canadian, First Team OUA All-Star, and team MVP. Since university, Heather has been a member of the Gryphon Women’s Volleyball Club. She is currently training with her club team and will be representing Canada at the World Masters Games in Sydney, Australia this fall. Heather has also competed in a number of OVA beach volleyball events over the years and was part of the coaching team at Solstice Sport last summer.
Jeff Weiler
Jeff attended Dalhousie University and played 5 years with the Tigers. At Dalhousie, Jeff was a 2 time league MVP, the school’s male athlete of the year for 3 consecutive years, a 3 time All-Canadian, a 4 time winner of the CIS Libero of the Year award and was nominated for the CIS Male Athlete of the Year in 2007. Jeff was a member of Canada’s National Team from 2001 until 2007 where he competed in over 50 international matches in various parts of the world such as the USA, Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East. Over the last two years Jeff has played professionally in Greece and Germany where he was a league all-star. This is Jeff’s second year as a coach at Solstice and will be coordinating the adult leagues as well.
